What is the difference between a Business Integrator and a Systems Integrator?

A Systems Integrator builds and configures your SAP technology. A Business Integrator sits on the client side — governing the programme, managing the SI relationship, and owning the workstreams the SI cannot objectively run on your behalf.

A Systems Integrator is contracted to design and build your SAP solution. Their commercial interest is in delivery — on their terms, to their timeline, within the scope they defined. A Business Integrator is contracted to you — independent of the SI — to make sure the programme is governed in your interests. That means managing the SI relationship, holding the scope, owning business change and data, and ensuring the investment your board approved is the outcome you actually deliver. The two roles are complementary, not competing. The SI delivers the technology. The Business Integrator makes sure the programme delivers the business outcome.

Do I need a Business Integrator if I already have an SI contracted?

Yes — and the later you engage one, the more it costs you. The SI is contracted to deliver technology. The client-side obligations — change management, data governance, benefits tracking, programme leadership — are your responsibility. Most organisations don't have the bandwidth or expertise to run them without support.

Having an SI contracted means you have a partner to build and configure the SAP solution. It does not mean you have anyone governing the programme on your behalf, managing the SI relationship commercially, owning business change, or ensuring your data is ready for migration. These are client-side obligations that the SI expects you to manage — and that most organisations underestimate until they become problems. Limelight can be engaged at any stage of a programme. The earlier the better — but we regularly join programmes already in delivery where the client has recognised the gap.

Is Limelight independent of SAP and the SIs?

Yes. Completely. Limelight has no commercial relationship with SAP or any Systems Integrator. We are not incentivised by software sales, SI partnerships, or referral arrangements of any kind.

Limelight's only commercial relationship is with our clients. We do not receive referral fees from SAP, we are not accredited SI partners, and we have no financial interest in which SI a client chooses or which SAP products they purchase. This independence is the foundation of the Business Integrator model — we can only protect your interests if we have no competing interests of our own. When we recommend something, it is because it is right for your programme. Not because it benefits us to recommend it.

How is Limelight different from a Big 4 consultancy?

Big 4 firms sell strategy at the top and deliver with junior resource. Limelight brings senior, hands-on experience to delivery — not to the pitch. We are also structurally independent in a way that large firms are not, with no SI partnerships or SAP commercial relationships that create conflicts of interest.

Big 4 consultancies offer broad advisory capability and significant brand recognition. They also bring large graduate workforces, time-and-materials commercial models, and commercial relationships with SAP and the major SIs that can create subtle conflicts of interest. Limelight is a different proposition — a smaller, senior team with deep SAP delivery experience, working exclusively on the client side, on fixed-scope engagements with defined deliverables and guaranteed outcomes. The directors who advise you are the same people who oversee your programme. There are no handoffs to junior teams after the contract is signed.

What is the first step to working with Limelight?

A conversation. No pitch, no proposal until it makes sense. We will ask the right questions and tell you honestly whether and how we can help — including if we think you need something different from what you've asked for.

Every Limelight engagement starts the same way — a structured sixty to ninety minute conversation with a senior director. We will listen to where you are, ask the questions that matter, and give you an honest view of what we think. If we are the right fit, we will tell you why and what that looks like in practice. If we are not, we will tell you that too. There is no commitment required and no proposal until the conversation has established that one makes sense.
