The 7 Deadly Data Sins

Data is the most underestimated workstream on every S/4HANA programme. By the time most teams realise that, it is already causing delays.

Data migration, quality and governance are not technical problems — they are programme management problems. In this webinar, we cover the seven mistakes that consistently derail S/4HANA data workstreams and exactly what to do about each one.

Every one of these is avoidable. Every one of them happens anyway.

  • Starting too late — Data migration runs alongside the main programme from day one. Treating it as a late-stage activity is the single fastest way to push your go-live date.

  • Migrating everything — "Everything" is not a data strategy. It is an expensive way to import legacy problems into a new system.

  • Leaving cleansing to the technical team — Technical teams migrate data between fields. They do not validate whether the data makes business sense. That is a business responsibility, not an IT one.

  • Underestimating volume and complexity — Master data is dispersed across multiple systems. Nobody fully appreciates how much there is until they try to move it.

  • No defined ownership — Without clear data owners, nobody is accountable when cleansing stalls. It always stalls.

  • Skipping the full dress rehearsal — At least one full migration run must happen before go-live. Not a subset. Not a sample. The full run, with timings captured.

  • Ignoring upstream systems — Any legacy system feeding data into your new SAP environment needs the same cleansing rigour. If the data coming in is poor, the system going live will be too.
